Wind Officer (BWEA)
Salary: Circa £30K depending on experience – pro rata part time for a suitable candidate – 2 years fixed term contract.
Location: Wales based with flexible home-working
BWEA was established in 1978 and is the representative body for companies active in the UK wind, wave and tidal energy market. Its membership has grown rapidly over recent years and now stands at over 310 companies.
We require someone with a comprehensive working understanding of the media and political systems in Wales, and demonstrable experience of public affairs and public relations. In coordinating and representing the UK wind industry in Wales, the successful candidate will need to facilitate the resolution of outstanding challenges at both a political and technical level and ultimately to lay the ground for the successful implementation of the Welsh Assembly Government 800megawatt onshore wind target. This will be achieved primarily through close partnership with Government at national & local authority level, grid companies, stakeholders, media and the public.
The post holder should be an excellent communicator, able to drive forward the industry agenda and work in partnership to secure our desired and mutual objectives. You will also require:
- Degree or equivalent in an environmental, business or political related discipline;
- At least 3 years experience of working in Government, or working within Government structures in a business capacity, preferably in the environmental or engineering sector or a closely related field;
- Lobbying and campaigning experience;
- An awareness of current energy policy for renewable energy including a detailed understanding of Technical Advice Note 8 (TAN8);
- An awareness of the planning and development issues facing wind farm development;
- A clean driving licence;
- A Welsh speaker would be an advantage.
