England & Wales

Airtricity, with its joint venture partner Fluor, holds a lease from the Crown Estate to build and operate a 500MW offshore wind farm at Greater Gabbard, located off the east coast of England. Following the completion of an Environmental Impact Assessment, an application for consents was submitted in October 2005. Construction of the project is planned for 2008 (subject to consent). It will feature up to 140 wind turbines. Below is an impression of how the wind farm will look when viewed from the shore.

Airtricity began working onshore in England and Wales in May 2005. Since entering the markets Airtricity have been working closely with local firm Dulas to identify suitable sites for wind farms . Both Airtricity and Dulas are experts in their fields and bring years of proven experience to our work in England and Wales. Together they have the skills and market knowledge to identify suitable wind energy sites and assess their technical and environmental feasibility. Once the sites are identified and terms are agreed with the landowners the next step is to develop wind energy proposals that are sensitive to the environment and will achieve the consents required for construction and operation. Airtricity will then build maintain and operate the wind energy sites on a long-term basis. Community involvement is paramount for the success of any wind farm. As such Airtricity place a lot of emphasis on open and honest community consultation while also trying to give back to the local area through community funds.

If you feel your land could be suitable for wind farm development, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please contact us at england-walesinfo@airtricity.com
