Republic of Ireland

Following the deregulation of the electricity industry in Ireland, Airtricity signed up its first customer in the Republic of Ireland in January 2000 and in Northern Ireland in July 2002. The company now supplies green, renewable electricity to over 50,000 customers throughout Ireland. Airtricity’s customer proposition is focused on making a positive and real contribution to the environment whilst enjoying a competitively priced product.

Airtricity has over 890MW of wind energy in the development pipeline in the Republic of Ireland. The company is developing the world’s second largest consented offshore wind park on the Arklow Bank, off the east coast of Ireland (520MW). ACCIONA Energía (formerly EHN), the leading Spanish renewable energy operator, has acquired a 50% equity interest in Phase 1 and the option to acquire 50% of Phase II of the project.

To support strong customer growth in demand at a time of rising gas and oil prices, Airtricity will double its existing generation capacity through the development of four new Irish facilities at locations in Limerick, Cavan and Wexford.
