Frequently Asked Questions
Question: What is green electricity?
Answer: Green electricity is produced from renewable resources such as wind and moving water. Using green electricity avoids the release of harmful pollution such as carbon dioxide, which is produced when fossil fuels (coal, peat, oil and gas) are used to generate electricity. Carbon dioxide is the cause of climate change, the biggest environmental threat facing the planet. Click here for more information.
Question: What happens if the wind doesn't blow?
Answer: Airtricity's electricity feeds into the national grid from generators which are powered by highly efficient wind turbines. A trading system, monitored by the government regulator will ensure that the customer is always supplied, even if the wind doesn't blow.
Question: How does Airtricity bill me?
Answer: Airtricity bills on a monthly basis. Your meter is read every two months, so every second bill is an estimate based on previous consumption.
Question: How are meter reads estimated?
Answer: Every electricity customer has a consumption profile based on the previous usage. All estimates are based on this profile. If at any stage you would like to check your meter, please do so. We would be delighted to use these readings. Simply call us with your reading on 1850 40 40 70 (if you would like more information on reading your meter please click here).
Question: What do I do in the unlikely event of a problem with supply?
Answer: Should you experience a power failure or any other service issues, please contact our customer service team on 1850 40 40 70 and they will be happy to deal with your query.
Question: Do I need any new meters/wiring?
Answer: No, the changeover to Airtricity is seamless. All you have to do is sign a customer agreement form and we'll do the rest. There is no need for you to change your existing meter and wiring system.
