Tappaghan

In August 2002, Airtricity submitted its first application to Planning Services in Northern Ireland for the development of a wind farm on Tappaghan Mountain. Tappaghan Mountain is located on the townland of Glenarn, near Lack in County Fermanagh. This site is open moorland and is approximately 250 hectares in size.  In November 2003, Airtricity received planning approval for the project.  Construction started in February 2004 with the commencement of enabling works.

The wind farm produces 19.5MW of electricity, enough to power the equivalent of approximately 12,000 houses. This represents 57% of the domestic electricity needs of the whole of the population of Fermanagh District Council.  The development involved the erection of 13 x 1.5 MW in Co Fermanagh on the border with Co Tyrone, made up of the town lands of Glenarn, Stranahone and Stranadarriff.
