Airtricity, with its joint venture partner Fluor, holds a lease from the Crown Estate to build and operate a 500MW offshore wind farm at Greater Gabbard, located 25km off the east coast of England. Following the completion of an Environmental Impact Assessment, an application for consents was submitted in October 2005. Consents for both onshore and offshore construction was received in February 2007.  Construction of the project is planned for Q2, 2009.  The wind farm will feature up to 140 wind turbines. Below is an impression of how the wind farm will look when viewed from the shore.

Airtricity is actively developing a number of wind farm sites in England & Wales.  Working with private and public sector landowners, the company has over 500MW in development.  With a number of sites in planning, it expects its first planning consent to be granted in early 2008.  Airtricity was selected as preferred bidder to develop a 100MW wind farm on Welsh Assembly Government land, in October 2007.  The company was one of three developers invited to develop on land managed by Forestry Commission Wales after a competitive bid process.
