Airtricity is the renewable energy development division of Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE). ence The company has responsibility for the development of onshore and offshore wind farms in the UK, Ireland, Europe and Asia as well as developing hydro and marine projects. It also sells electricity and gas in Ireland and electricity in Northern Ireland, although preparations are underway to enter the gas market there too.

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Regulation Analyst to join the small regulation team in Dublin and are open to the option of arranging this as a secondment. This position reports to Regulation Manager Ireland and is a key member of the Airtricity Regulation team, which sits within the Strategy and Public Policy Group.

Key Accountabilities:


The primary responsibility for this post is to support the work of the Regulation in Ireland by providing analysis of the impact that proposals by the regulatory authorities in both jurisdictions will have on the business of Airtricity.

This will involve numerical analysis and development of responses to official Consultations, based on internal discussion. The focus is on developing credible lobbying positions and influencing legal and regulatory policy to protect Airtricity’s commercial interests. Although focussing on the retail market, this position will include dealing with regulatory issues across the whole business.

Detailed accountabilities will include:

  • Impact Analysis of regulatory and market rule change proposals to the electricity and gas sectors of both ROI and NI.
  • Assessment of European and Government policy impact on future development of the energy sector and our business on the island of Ireland.
  • Internal consultation and assistance in development of Company policy
  • Development of responses to regulatory and legislative consultations.
  • Maintaining compliance with legal and regulatory obligations
  • Representing Airtricity at industry meetings and forums.


Personnel Specification


The successful candidate will:

  • have an honours degree in economics, engineering, or equivalent experience
  • have substantial experience in regulation, or a background in operations, maintenance, or competitive market arrangements in the energy sector
  • have a creative approach to analysis and problem solving
  • have proven ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English, both verbally and in writing
  • have excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • be comfortable with ambiguity
  • be highly motivated and have a self-starter attitude with the ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines.


Ideally the successful candidate will also possess:

  • a working knowledge of the retail and wholesale gas (and possibly also the electricity market) in GB
  • an enthusiasm to understand and contribute to development of the energy market on the island of Ireland
  • a willingness to investigate and understand the legislative framework underpinning energy markets in the two jurisdictions
