All gas meter readings are supplied to us by Bord Gáis Networks. They are responsible for operating and maintaining the gas network in the Republic of Ireland, so they will always read your gas meter – no matter which supplier you are with.
Each year Bord Gáis Networks is responsible for supplying the following readings for all gas customers:
- 4 'actual readings' (i.e., where it comes to your property and reads your meter) and
- 2 'estimated readings' where your usage will be calculated using factors such as your historical usage and the time of year.
Unfortunately we can't request when these meter readings are sent to us, so they may not correspond to your billing dates. If we don't receive a meter reading from Bord Gáis Networks during your billing period and you also don't submit a meter reading during this time you may not receive a gas bill with your statement.
This differs from electricity where we are able to generate estimates when required. This is partly because the energy content of your gas constantly varies.
How to get more regular and accurate gas bills
By submitting regular gas meter readings you will:
- Help ensure you receive regular gas bills
- Improve the accuracy of any estimated readings
- Make sure you only pay for what you use
If you need some help our Meter Reading Guide has instructions on how to read your meter and submit a reading, and you can also sign up for free text or email Meter Reading Reminders to let you know when you should submit a reading for your next bill.
