Airtricity began development in Northern Ireland in 1999. The company have a development office in Omagh, comprising significant experience in all aspects of wind farm development including planning, wind analysis and electrical engineering.
The company also has an office in Belfast which deals with the company’s green electricity supply business in Northern Ireland. At present, Airtricity supplies green electricity to over 8,000 small to medium sized businesses in Northern Ireland.
Airtricity will have 4 fully operational wind farms generating 49MW of renewable energy by the end of 2008, plus a development pipeline of over 160MW. The attractive renewable incentive scheme for England, Wales and Scotland was extended to Northern Ireland in 2005, making this market ripe for renewable electricity development. Airtricity is also examining opportunities to acquire development assets in this region.
