Job Description: Offshore Manager

Report to: General Manager Ireland & New Markets Offshore

Location : Dublin

Summary: Airtricity is seeking to appoint an Offshore Manager who would be responsible for delivering Airtricity’s business targets and objectives in the Republic of Ireland.

Responsibilities

The Offshore Manager will be responsible for coordinating the offshore development activities of Airtricity in Ireland, which could include a joint venture with at minimum one other wind development company and greenfield windfarm development activities.

S/he will have a key role in supervising the joint venture and helping define and gain approval for its business plan. S/he will facilitate the interface between the JV(s) and Airtricity to ensure that Airtricity’s operations deliver business plan targets in the most efficient manner with adequate resources. S/he will follow the Irish energy market to find and evaluate business opportunities.

Development of relationships with government, regulatory, political and media contacts at the highest level will be a key element of this role.

Key tasks will include the following:

  • Managing the acquisition of Arklow Bank wind farm phase 1
  • Managing future developments at Arklow Bank wind farm and other offshore sites, ensuring that they are proactively managed in line with Airtricity policies and guidelines
  • Surveying the Irish energy market, finding and assessing business opportunities and when appropriate presenting them to the Airtricity Board for approval.
  • Supervision of possible JV(s), including:
    • Maintain good relations with joint venture partners and determining at an early stage as to whether there are underlying issues which need to be addressed, before adversely impacting on the joint venture relationship.
    • Facilitating interface with Airtricity, especially its head office.
    • Development and updating of the business plan in cooperation with the JV management and obtaining senior Airtricity management and Board approval.
    • Ensuring the right resources, including staff, are available for efficient delivery of the business plan.
  • Development of relationships with government, regulatory, political and media contacts and ensuring that these key stakeholders are kept informed of Airtricity’s business plan in Ireland.

Education and Experience:

  • A Degree in engineering, environmental science or comparable industry project management qualifications.
  • Strong working knowledge of renewable energy generating technologies (especially wind energy) or utility/electricity market experience.
  • Strong communication and well developed people skills. Demonstrable ability to effectively network with key stakeholders.
  • Sound project management and control capability skills including a proven ability to manage complex matrix projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Minimum of 5 years proven recent project management experience leading large scale projects.
  • Good written and oral communication skills and the ability to prepare clear reports and public presentation to senior management at board level.
  • Fluency in English required. Another European language would be advantageous.
