TXU unit adds to wind power portfolio
Dallas Business Journal - Tuesday April 11, 2006
TXU Wholesale, a subsidiary of TXU Corp., has signed a 125-megawatt agreement with Airtricity, a renewable energy company based in Dublin, Ireland.
The agreement increases TXU's contracts for renewable energy to 756 wind turbines from 702 wind turbines.
The contract also gives Dallas-based TXU (NYSE: TXU) 705 megawatts of renewable energy -- up from 580 megawatts.
The 15-year deal would provide enough power for more than 24,000 homes and meet the annual energy needs of about 56,000 Texas residents, TXU said.
Airtricity will provide the wind power from its Forest Creek wind farm, which is under construction about 25 miles southeast of Big Spring in West Texas. Once completed, Airtricity will own and operate the facility. The wind farm is Airtricity's first in the state of Texas.
