Wind Farm Open Days

In response to the growing interest in renewable energy, Airtricity has held open days over the last number of years.  Most recently was an open day at the Meentycat Wind Farm, located in County Donegal on Saturday, 16th June 2007.  The open day was primarily to give locals the opportunity to see wind turbines in action and find out more about the real power of the wind.  The event was co-ordinated through the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) as part of their Wind Weekend campaign.  More than 60 'wind events' took place in 21 different countries over the wind weekend (http://www.windday.eu).

The open day at Meentycat was well attended by over 300 people.  The day included face painters, balloon modellers, face painters, art competitions, video showings of the construction of the Meentycat wind farm and a barbeque.

In 2005 and 2006, Airtricity, in association with the British Wind Energy Association (BWEA), successfully launched the Wind Farm Open Day initiative in Northern Ireland and Scotland. The objective of the open day was to let local people see how a wind farm operates, how renewable energy can be sourced in a way which is not harmful to the environment and to offer people a chance to ask questions of our engineers – and of course to have a bit of fun at the same time.
