Meentycat

In January 2004, Airtricity began construction of this 38-turbine wind farm with the commencement of enabling works. The wind farm site is located at five townlands, five miles northeast of Ballybofey, in Co. Donegal. These sites include Meentycat, Meenalaban, Meenahorna, Ballystrang and Cark Mountain.

Approximately 22km of road has been constructed over the five sites, along with all of the 38 turbine foundations. The power from the turbines is transmitted to the national grid via a 110kV substation located at Meentycat, a 5km 110kV Over Head Line and a 110kV Substation located at Drumkeen, which is situated to the east of the wind farm site. This is the largest wind farm in Ireland.
