Ardrossan

Our Ardrossan wind farm has become a much visited landmark in its first year of operation and has been well embraced by the local community. Situated just off the B780, around 40 miles south west of Glasgow, 12 wind turbines produce enough green electricity to power around 20,000 homes. We submitted an application to North Ayrshire Council in December 2005 to extend the wind farm by a further three turbines which would take the total output of the site to around 30MW.

All the power produced at Ardrossan is supplied to Powergen.

Over the course of the year around 1,600 people have visited the wind farm. Some people have visited the wind farm on trips organised for community groups or schools. Others came along to an Open Day in September, as part of the “Embrace the Wind” campaign to show public support for wind energy, during which over 1,000 people visited the wind farm. It was the most visited wind farm out of the 15 wind farms that took part in the event throughout the UK.
