Reading your meter depends on the meter type.  Select your meter type from the list below to see specific meter reading instructions.

Standard Meter

This is the most common type of meter. It has a row of numbers and a revolving disc. It records all electricity usage on one register in Kilowatt Hours (kWh).

To read your revolving dial meter simply note the number reading from left to right. Make sure to write down any zeros including ones at the start of the reading.

Ignore any figures in red or any figures surrounded by a red box. The reading on this meter is '24621'

This meter has 2 rows of numbers and one revolving disc.

One row of numbers records daytime consumption and the other records consumption at night. Simply note the numbers as you read from left to right on the Day register and the Night register. Ignore any figures in red or any figures surrounded by a red box.

The readings on this meter are DAY '24621' and NIGHT '14626'.

Note: 'Day and Night' meters may have numbers 1 and 2 or the roman numerals I and II beside each register. On all ESB meters I refers to Night and II refers to Day

Meter reading combinations

As a business customer you may have one or more meters which display the readings necessary for billing. Depending on your tariff there are a number of combinations of readings that need to be taken. In order to avoid an estimated electricity bill or to receive an adjusted bill, please contact your supplier.

Electronic Meter A

This is the most commonly installed electronic meter and it is known as the 'Vision' meter. It has an automatic scrolling electronic display.

The display automatically changes every 9 seconds to show you 20 different information panels.

Note numbers as you read the meter from left to right and ignore any figures to the right of the decimal place.

For Maximum Demand customers please note the date of the last reset in Screen 12. If the date is not the current month, the meter has not yet reset and the readings cannot be taken.

Note: Screen numbers do not appear on the display. The display will return to Screen 1 automatically and cycles through this sequence.
