What are electricity 'pass-through' charges?

Pass-through charges are any charges that Airtricity must pay other entities in the Electricity Market when supplying electricity to our customers. 

These charges are approved by the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) and apply to all electricity suppliers in the Republic of Ireland. 

As at 1 October 2009, the pass-through charges for domestic electricity supplies include the following charges:

  • Distribution Use of System charges and Distribution Loss Adjustment Factor charges (both ESB Networks Limited imposed charges);
  • Transmission Use of System charges (Eirgrid plc imposed charges); and
  • Variable Market Operator and Imperfection Charges (both Single Electricity Market Operator imposed charges).
