Question
Answer

What is an MPRN and why do I need it?

Your Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) is a unique identification number assigned to your house. It is referred to as "M" on the right hand corner of your electricity bill. We need your MPRN to ensure we transfer the correct account as quickly and smoothly as possible.

Can I get supplied by Airtricity?

Yes you can. We currently supply 100% renewable electricity to business in Northern Ireland and plan to enter the domestic market in the next few months.

Why switch to Airtricity?

How do I switch to Airtricity?

Please see How Do I Switch?

What happens after I switch?

Nothing, we do everything from here.

Week 1: Day 1
First things first, we process your application and let your current supplier know.

Week 1: Day 3
If you chose the hassle-free payment option of direct debit or Airtricity Budget Plan, we will send you a letter to confirm your bank details. We want to make sure we have the correct information, so please check the details carefully and let us know if anything needs to be updated.

If you don't choose direct debit as your payment option, your deposit is now due for payment. We will send you a notification and the deposit will be due 14 days later.

Week 4-6

We will send you a letter confirming your transfer and welcoming you to Airtricity. Around the same time you should receive your final bill from your previous supplier. This should be paid as normal.

About a month later
You will receive your first bill from Airtricity and thereafter every 2 months.

It may take 4-6 weeks to complete the transfer.

Don’t worry; the lights won’t go out during these 4-6 weeks!

If you gave us a valid meter reading when you signed up, you’ll be getting cheaper, greener electricity from the date of your meter reading; however it may take 4-6 weeks to complete the paperwork

Do I have to contact my current Supplier?

No, we’ll let your current supplier know. We’ll contact you as soon as you have transferred to us. Around the same time you should receive your final bill from your current supplier.

Do I need a new meter/rewiring?

Switching is simple and hassle free. You don't have to make any changes to your premises. We use the same wires and meters so there will be no disruption to your business.

Will there be any disruption to my supply when I switch, or if the wind doesn't blow?

There will be no disruption to your supply and no risk to your business. All of our power is placed on the National Grid, and what you use is taken from the National Grid, and will continue that way. Our customers include hospitals and large manufacturers, for instance, and just like you they cannot take any risks with their electricity supply. You don't need a new meter or have to carry out any changes to your premises.

Can I switch if I rent the premises?

You don't have to own the premises to switch to Airtricity. You are not locked into a fixed contract and as there is no rewiring and you don't need a new meter the premises will not be affected - the only difference is you will be using cheaper, greener electricity.
