Wind Analyst - AR/08/98

Airtricity is the renewable energy development division of Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE).  The company has responsibility for the development of onshore and offshore wind farms in the UK, Ireland, Europe and Asia as well as developing hydro and marine projects. 

One of Airtricity’s flagship projects is based off the Suffolk coast in the UK and is the 504MW Greater Gabbard offshore wind farm, which when completed will be the world's largest offshore wind farm.  Airtricity was acquired by SSE in February 2008 and the combined Airtricity / SSE team have developed 40 new wind farms across Europe and North America resulting in over 1500MW, making it a leading wind farm developer.  The company’s goal is to protect the future of our planet by delivering renewable energy with passion, innovation and integrity.

We are currently seeking to recruit a Wind Analyst. This position reports to the Resource Assessment Regional Manager for the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland and the successful candidate will be an active member of the Airtricity Resource Assessment team. The services provided will be primarily for ROI/NI developments and therefore you will also be an active member of the Airtricity ROI/NI team.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing early resource assessments and layouts to internal clients;
  • Management of installation, maintenance and removal of temporary meteorological masts.
  • Internal electricity production estimates and management of subcontracted analyses;
  • Auditing wind measurements from potential acquisition sites;
  • Internal site condition assessments and management of subcontracted analyses;
  • Ensuring departmental and mast contractor compliance with all relevant aspects of Airtricity’s Safety, Health and Environmental policy.

The successful candidate will also contribute to the development of methods and QA procedures for the Resource Assessment team and contribute towards research activities.

The successful candidate should have the following skills and experience:

  • A good engineering/physical science degree or equivalent
  • Experience in the field of wind resource assessment is preferable
  • Strong analytical skills and very comfortable with IT
  • Ability to balance attention to detail with engineering judgment
  • High levels of energy and motivation
  • Have a capability to communicate clearly to other specialists and professionals who are not from a technology background
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel
  • Fluency in English
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
