Airtricity’s sustainable schools programme, Operation Energy, was launched in October 2011 with the objective of helping students, parents and entire communities tackle green issues and promote sustainability.
To help schools across the country progress along their sustainable journey, we have teamed up with Eco-Schools Northern Ireland as principal programme partners and Energy topic ambassadors. Operation Energy works in collaboration with Eco-Schools NI.
What is Operation Energy?
Operation Energy is an interactive website for teachers and pupils which offers a variety of energy focused teaching resources, activities and games, all of which support learning across the Northern Ireland curriculum.
Teachers can choose from over 60 different classroom activities with 10 energy focused lessons plans for Foundation, KS1 and KS2. For pupils, it has exciting games, home energy pledges and a media gallery.
Why is Airtricity doing this?
As the Ireland’s leading green energy supplier, we take energy efficiency very seriously. Our ambition is to empower teachers to drive real and measurable changes in their schools and communities through providing free teaching resources on energy, term time prize draw for schools to win eco-grants, and pupil-focused money-can't-buy experiences.
What have we achieved so far?
Since the launch, Operation Energy has over 110 schools registered to the programme, with the potential to influence over 10,000 students. On top of this, almost 4000 lessons plans and activities have been downloaded, resulting in well above 2000 hours of teaching time.
