Clyde wind farm
Located between Biggar and Moffat and divided by the M74 motorway between Abington, Elvanfoot and Crawford in South Lanarkshire, our proposed 580MW wind farm in the Upper Clyde Valley is currently the subject of a Public Inquiry at Crawfordjohn. The Inquiry, which is for consent under Section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989, started on Thursday 31st August 2006 and is expected to last three to four weeks.
The Clyde wind farm is strategically important for Scotland. Large scale sites must play a role in meeting the government’s renewable targets and Clyde will make a significant contribution to the Scottish Executive’s climate change target of having 40% of the nation’s electricity generated by renewables by 2020.
The 161 turbine wind farm will provide enough power through underground links to the national grid for about 410,000 homes. Clyde will reduce the output of carbon dioxide by around 1,600,000 tonnes a year.
According to a recent independent study for Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire and Dumfries & Galloway, the £498 million Clyde wind farm project will generate almost 850 full time equivalent jobs in Scotland with about 250 of these in Lanarkshire.
